Lewena Bayer

For the past 14 years, Lew Bayer has been nationally recognized as Canada’s leading expert on civility in the workplace, with a focus on social intelligence and culturally-competent communication. She is CEO of Civility Experts Worldwide, an international training company with 32 affiliates in 12 countries. Building on the global demand for training, Civility Experts expanded in 2007 to include the Center for Organizational Cultural Competence . Lew is also Executive Director of the International Civility Trainers’ Consortium, a proud Mentor for The Etiquette House, and a member of the Advisory Board for A Civil Tongue. An 8-time published author and national columnist, with new book Power of Civility released in May 2011, Lew is regularly called upon for expert editorial commentary in her field. She is a featured expert on CBC’s Day 6, long-time contributor to Canadian Living Magazine, Heart for Business, Star Lee Entrepreneur Magazine, and several other online and print publications. Lew participated in Government of Canada Diversity and Intercultural Communications training; she is a faculty member at Georgetown University Center for Cultural Competence, faculty at the Canadian Management Center in Toronto and guest facilitator for the American Management Center in New York. She is also an alumni spokesperson for McGill University, a member of the certification panel for the International Civility Trainers’ Consortium (ICTC), Master level trainer for the Canadian School of Service, MTSC® and a certified Culture Coach™. Lew is a recipient of the Manitoba Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award for International Business. She was also nominated for the RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2009 and in 2010. In May 2010, Lew was the first Canadian to be awarded the prestigious AICI International Civility Star Award. Current projects include the launch of a Canada-wide civility initiative for school-age children called “Macaroni and Please™”, the opening of Every Girl Can Canada™, establishing the Civility Speakers Bureau and the launch of Civility at Work® Magazine planned for November 2011. Lew’s long-term goals include two new books published in 2012, plans for an International Conference on Civility and launching the Canadian branch of “Because it matters”, a community civility initiative that focuses on building social capital which was started in Florida, USA.
